I’m in a quest to try as many of my Pinterest pins before I die….although that might be difficult because I can’t seem to stop pinning. So many recipes, crafts…things to do…. Anyways, I saw a recipe for a healthy banana oatmeal muffin here. I had all the ingredients…especially some bananas that were well past their prime. Now, I’ve made many, many muffins in my life but never tried one without flour. And I really am trying for more healthy cooking.
They were quick and easy to make…but not so much a hit at my house. Middle son (who usually woofs my banana bread) said they were just all right. The little ones ate them…but not the whole thing and didn’t ask for more. Out of a dozen muffins I ended up giving four to the chickens two days later. I think it was the texture of the muffins that threw us off. I didn’t really like it. It was kind of like eating a mushed together oatmeal. Oh well, I’ve seen another one that has some added flour…and maybe if the oats were pulverized first?
And no, that’s not my hand. I just forgot to take a picture first.
For 2013 I want to try out some new things…learn some new skills…and Pinterest is the place to do that. On my Natural Alternatives board I wanted to try the hard lotion bars. I found an easy recipe on Pinterest to make them with only 3 ingredients. You use equal parts of each ingredient.
I already had olive oil and I bought cocoa butter and beeswax at my local food coop. It was $11 for an 8 oz. bar of beeswax (used 4oz.) and $9 for an 8oz. jar of cocoa butter (used half). I got the molds at my local thrift store for 25¢ each. So, for about $11 I was able to make 12 mini muffin sized bars and 12 small star shaped bars. Here’s what they look like.
I like these! I have very dry skin and I’ve been using one…my hands are feeling so soft. You really need to give these a try. They are super easy!
When you have these…
You are likely to have these…
I found a fly trap and a fly deterrent on Pinterest.
The fly deterrent was basically a Ziploc bag half filled with water and a couple of pennies in the bottom. That has been hanging in my garage for about two weeks. Can I give it a big fail? The flies are pretty much just flying around it. I’m really disappointed because it got such good reviews. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. Maybe I need more of them?
The second one was a fly trap made with a plastic soda bottle with bait in the bottom. The first webpage I found said to use apple cider vinegar for bait.
That pretty much sat outside for 2 days and didn’t catch a single fly. The second website with a trap like this said to use a stinky bait so I’m throwing in a piece of meat that will hopefully attract them. We’ll see what happens.
Any Pinterest fans are out there?
I’m sure there are quite a few. I started using Pinterest last year to help me bookmark my favorite pages for use in my preschool classroom. I love it! I’m a very visual person and it’s so much easier for me to have pictures bookmarked. I have found tons of wonderfully creative ideas.
Of course it doesn’t have to stop at preschool classroom ideas. I now have boards for recipes, gardening, chickens, getting prepared and more.
So many pins, and so little time.
